Something Digital 2024 – what an amazing time we had, soaking up insights from world-class speakers and connecting with amazing humans from Australia and around the world over two action-packed days.
We were thrilled to see two of our own, Cathy Ford and Lara Thompson, leading panels and masterclasses on AI. Their expertise continues to inspire us and reinforce Integral’s commitment to responsible innovation.
-You can also find Cathy’s summary presentation on AI governance here-
On the first day, Brittany Brown from NASA took us on a journey into the secrets of driving audience engagement. Her presentation was truly out of this world, yet her recommendations were entirely accessible for brands right here on Earth.
Yao Ding from Meta guided us through the importance of digital inclusivity. He showed us how accessibility improvements not only help those with disabilities but enhance the experience for everyone. We’ll be putting his accessibility playbook into action.
Alondra Nelson from the Institute of Advanced Study and a key member of a United Nations AI committee, gave us a glimpse into the future of AI and how governments are navigating this evolving landscape. Her insights are sure to spark important conversations as we move forward. And great to see that our own considerations for AI Governance and the responsible adoption of AI align with top thought leaders around the world.
On day two, we enjoyed a lively panel with Jassie Hughes from Leonardo.ai, Jim Hogan from Google Cloud, and Larene Le Gassick from Canva, who discussed AI as a tool to amplify inclusion. We also learned about incredible tools like Be My Eyes, an AI volunteer that helps visually impaired people get descriptions of what's in front of them.
Danielle Ah Boo from Screen Queensland, Michael Dickerson (Gambarra Kaha), and Rose Barrowcliffe (Macquarie University) shared their perspectives as First Nations People and guided us on how to maintain intellectual property rights and data sovereignty for their communities.
Rachael Kowert gave us the perfect excuse not to feel guilty about gaming by showing us all the positive things that come with it, from education and connection to the development of soft skills and the opportunity to raise awareness about global issues on a massive scale.
The panel with the most "rizz" was one hosted by Gen Z students and professionals, who taught us how to engage with their generation and shared their views as consumers. It was great. No cap.
Disinformation and online interference expert Nina Jankowicz explored how we can all play a role in cleaning up our information system.
And finally, Marek Kowalkiewicz showed us how AI is changing the way we do business in industries like e-commerce, transport, and even law and hospitality.
A huge thank you to the Something Digital team for putting together such an insightful, thought-provoking and necessary event. We’re more than proud to be partners of the best digital event in Australia.
